Energy for access webinar

TITLE:

Securing an Inclusive Energy Transition: Female Empowerment and Entrepreneurship in Energy Access

DATE:

11 March 2020

TIME:

8.30am Eastern Time

Off- and weak-grid appropriate lighting solutions, appliances, and productive use equipment allow communities to leverage energy services for income-generation. Unfortunately, gendered institutional structures and social norms often prevent the equal distribution of the benefits of energy access between men and women. Women are less likely to work in the formal economy, and when they are, they do so in enterprises with lower energy demands. This imbalance may restrict opportunities for women and hinder development efforts in the long run.

This webinar, hosted by the Efficiency for Access Coalition as part of our #AppliancesEmpower campaign, will explore the ways in which a gender-positive approach to energy access can help deliver multiple benefits for women and their communities. In particular, we will discuss the role of sustainable energy, off-grid appropriate appliances, and productive uses can play in women’s social and economic empowerment and the importance of taking a gender-positive approach to energy access.
